Studio space and equipment for still life

When photographing still life photography you don’t need as much space as what you do when you’re doing portraiture unless you photograph larger things, you also don’t have to photograph in a studio, you can photograph in the comfort of your own home.

What you will need when photographing still life
- Minimal space- enough room for a table and a light
- Backdrops or even material to hang up or over your table.
- Tripod
- Something to block up the window light if needed
- Some kind of lighting such as a lamp
- Maybe a ladder in case you want to shoot above

Why do you not need a large amount of space for still life? – When photographing still life you don’t need a lot of space because when it comes to still life most things are very simple and small, this means you can even photograph in your own home. All you need is something to place your subject and that’s it. If you had a large studio already you can use apart of that but if you don’t then you don’t need to go out and spend money on things you don’t have, this is the bonus of shooting still life.

When it comes to lighting all you need is a lamp and maybe even different coloured bulbs to create an atmosphere. You don’t always need expensive lights to photograph still life; its what you do with it and how you photograph is that counts. The only other thing you need when photographing still life is maybe a small backdrop or some material to drape over your table.
