Studio space and equipment for portraits

When photographing portrait photography in a studio you need a lot more space than what you would if you were photographing still life.

What you need when photographing portraits
-Large amount of space
-Large backdrop in a range of colours or scenes.

-Tripod
-All different lighting types such as Soft box, beauty dish
-Props and a place for props if used
-A chair for your model

Why do you need a large amount of space for portrait? - When photographing portraits in the studio you need to be able to work freely and have enough room for you and your model or models. (You could have more than one model such as family portraits) and trying to work in a small place with a large amount of people just wouldn’t work so a large space will work a lot better and would make your models feel more comfortable and you will be able to work better in a larger environment with your own personal space.

Because you will have a larger room you will need larger lights to be able to fill the space and light the model correctly; if you had small lights, the lights would be too direct and you will not get a soft lighting, instead a very harsh lighting. When using larger lights you will need a place to keep these lights, when having a larger studio you will have the room to space them out correctly.

Some photographers use a lot of props therefore when you have a larger space you can organise your props and make room for them so they aren’t everywhere and they are organised properly.
