To paint with light is simple... all you need is somewhere VERY dark with no light else this technique will not work, a long exposure or even BULB setting, a torch and an object if you wanted to light up
When painting with light it isn't always in the studio you can paint with light photographing for example; abandoned buildings. When and if you want to photograph this, you need a tripod set your camera to bulb or use a long shutter (use a shutter cable if you have one its easier) and once you press the shutter turn the light on and go over the subject constantly moving it where you want light so there will be no harsh lines; once you have finished release the shutter and you will have your image!
To paint with light in the studio is exactly the same but instead you use your torch to lighten subjects or even draw and write! Doing this in the studio is very fun especially with children and it's so simple.
