Tips for posing your model

   - Make sure your model is sat comfortable on the chair or whatever he/she is sat on, making sure they breathe slowly and not to panic as this will show up through the emotion in photographs. Give them a few minutes to calm down and feel a sense of empowerment and this could build a bond between the photographer and model.

   - Often the best pose for your model that looks most photogenic isn’t always photographing flat on, Imagine your model having a piece of string running up their spine through their head and slightly dropping the shoulders; this creates a confident look.

    - Get your model to turn their torso (middle of the body) in front of the camera, looking at you whilst you talk to them. Reassure your model that they look better; this will make your model feel more confident in front of the camera.

     - Find the models best angle by getting them to look away from the camera and then looking up into the camera; repeat this a couple of times until you can see the models best angle pose for you and the model assuring that he/she is comfortable

   - Get your model to “blow raspberries” to relax the mouth and also get your model to laugh spontaneously which also relaxes their mouth. Getting your model to move their eyebrows up and down will remove furrowed brows and will remove any set wrinkles caused by facial tension. The last thing to do is get your model to look up and down then into the camera to avoid eyestrain.

- Whatever is closest to your lens instantly looks enlarged. Pose your sitter with their weight on the leg furthest from the lens, or get them to raise a shoulder furthest away from the lens. Get your sitter to lean forward towards the lens if you want to take attention away from a large tummy or position yourself slightly higher if you want to get rid of fold under the chin.

- You and your model need to relax and have fun. These tricks will help you do that and feel more confident. Try them and you will see good results.
